Intermittency of Rock Fractured Surfaces: A Power Law

Roughness of rock fractured surfaces is one the most important factors controlling fluid flow in masses. quantification prime importance for modelling ground waters as well reservoir mechanics. In this study, with aid high-resolution 3D X-ray CT scanning and image processing techniques, roughness four different types reconstructed a resolution 16.5 microns. Moreover, correlation structure functions are used to analyse height fluctuations statistical intermittency studied surfaces. It observed that at length scales smaller than critical scale, fractures correlated show multifractality. Monofractals neither intermittent nor correlated; hence, meaningful link between function multifractals expected. However, model considers relationship predicts multifractal spectra disordered systems still missing. A simple power law can exactly forecast multiscaling spectrum fracture process zone being introduced. explained how exponent ?i related crossover ?, scale be objectively identified.
